Ruslan Baginskiy on the Ukrainian Christmas Stars
This winter, Ruslan Baginskiy draws inspiration from Ukrainian traditions, celebrating the central symbol of Ukrainian holidays — the Christmas star. The festive décor highlights the beauty of Ukrainian Christmas symbols and craftsmanship.
The traditional Christmas stars, which served as the primary inspiration, were crafted for the brand by master star-maker Mykhailo Shvets. He specializes in recreating Christmas stars based on archival photos, paintings, and the recollections of older generations. His creations represent various regions of Ukraine, including Cherkasy, Poltava, Volyn, and several western regions. While rooted in classic designs, Mykhailo incorporates original elements, blending a modern perspective with an ancient craft.
Historically, Christmas stars were made from everyday household sieves, adorned with rays, and illuminated with a candle placed inside — a guiding light in the darkness, heralding the arrival of carolers. Today, Christmas stars carry a symbolic radiance, uniting people through cherished traditions.
